of Afghanistan injured, and today, the Bourbonnais mom woke up knowing that her son was sleeping in his bedroom.

After a year long deployment in Iraq, U.S. Army
SGM Marotta returned home to Honor and Respect from many! At O'Hare, he was greeted by Ride Coordinator Tom
Tallman and Warriors Watch Riders and Barb Fitzpatrick and Will County A.B.A.T.E. Riders with a Welcome that brought tears
to the eyes of our Hero, serving our country for more than 30 years! They then began his final journey home with
an escort ALL the WAY to Wilmington, Illinois where they were met by American Legion Riders and the Police and Fire Departments
of Wilmington, sirens wailing as they escorted him to his final destination at VFW POST #5422, whom hosted a party
to celebrate the safe return and Service of SGM and that of his family, our unspoken heroes.

Vietnam Army Veteran and Lockport resident, Francis "Bud" Smolich received a Presidential Unit Citation this
month in Washington for his efforts in a battle in 1970 in Vietnam. Smolich's unit, Alpha Troop, rescued another U.S.
Army unit that was 90% surrounded by the North Vietnamese. "Bud"
was honored with an Escort and party at the Lockport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

The town of Sullivan was dressed with yellow ribbons, American Flags, families, friends and MOMS awaiting the arrival
of the 634th BSB. Since their mobilization in September of 2008, these Soldiers were part of the largest overseas deployment
of the Illinois National Guard since World War II, forming Task Force Phoenix VIII. The deployment included approximately
30 Units throughout the state.
In a News Release, Governor Pat Quinn said "It is important that we honor our Service Members, not only as thy
arrive home to their families and loved ones, but everyday. These Soldiers have served our country proudly and we must
never forget their selfless courage".

...Coal City Marine Lance Corporal Marc E. Olson is home for the holidays.
Returning from Bethesda Naval Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he has spent the last month, LCpl Olson returned December 10th,
accompanied by his mother, Janice "Pinky" Kloski. "We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support by so very many
to our family and Marc," Pinky and husband, Jay said. Olson will return to Bethesda the first week in January for further
treatment and surgery due to severe injuries sustained in an attack on November 8, 2008, while stationed in Ramadi, Iraq.
Communities gathered together, lining the escort route with Coal City Fire and Police along with Grundy
County Sheriff's leading, Coal City St. Juvin Post 1336 presenting arms in the wind of the day, joined by the Wilmington ESDA
Department and ending at the VFW Malcolm J. Mayo Post #5422 in Wilmington. The VFW donated its venue, with "D" Construction
of Coal City sponsoring a luncheon along with the donation of many dishes from residents, and presentations by Wilmington
VFW Commander William Kiley, Coal City President Neal Nelson, Wilmington Mayor Roy Strong, Coal City VFW Charles Brown, Coal
City American Legion, Thomas Cave, Chris Crawford and the Coal City Miners Team, MOMS VP Gina Wills on behalf of Coal
City Resident, Don Livingston and OPERATION: MOMS Cookies Founder, Debbie Trippiedi. It was a day of honor for
a young Marine, a Purple Heart Recipient and Thank You's filled with respect for his service and selfless sacrifice on behalf
of each of our freedoms!

the Corp right out of High School
as it was "What he always wanted to do"! He departed for final training on TUESDAY, November 18th and for deployment
directly to a destination not yet determined, without a return leave home! 4:30AM...Freezing
cold, PFC Eilers stands with his father, best friend, Ron Armstrong, and friends and supporters gathering as he prepares
to leave! He was escorted through Wilmington to the City Limits at I55 led by his hometown Wilmington
ESDA, Fire and Police along with Will County Escort vehicles. Early wake-up...freezing cold...sending off a local HERO!

Departs for 6 years of Service to Our Country!
Pictured left is Stephen, with parents Steve and Michelle Folk in their Wilmington home, moments before
his departure! The residence was filled, the rain began, But detoured no one in bidding their Farewell!
The small streets began to fill with Wilmington Police, ESDA, Fire and Will County Sheriff's vehicles
to escort Stephen through his hometown as his journey began to take his Oath at MEPS and on to Basic Training in Texas, in
Military Service to our country. As the escort began, it filled to over 5 blocks long, with a community of caring, respect
and support for their American Hero!
